Colonel William A. (Bill) McSpadden, US Army Ret. 86, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, died August 4, 2016, at home, as he wished - his beloved wife of 39 years, Blair, nearby.

Bill was born on Nov. 10, 1929 in the Texas Panhandle to pioneers that helped develop Amarillo into a hub city. In his teens, he became known as the "Whistler of the Plains" and entertained at many civic functions. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1952 and was Co-Editor of the "Aggieland" his senior year. Thereafter, he became a Field Artillery Officer in the U.S. Army and remained in that service for the next 35 years. He saw duty in many areas of the world and was duly recognized with many top awards and decorations for his exceptional service, before being retired in 1987. While in the service, he was competitively selected to attend all of its institutions of higher learning, as well as being sent to UCLA to earn a Master's Degree.

Bill and his wife, Blair, resided in both Northern Virginia and Florida. They loved to travel and took many trips to exotic places, as well as going on 28 cruises throughout the world. Most of all, they loved to have fun, wherever they were. Bill loved to tell jokes and Blair's sparkling laugh made them good, whether they really were or not.

A memorial service and interment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Blair suggests that a donation be made to Wounded Warriors Program, or First Presbyterian Church of Stuart, 1715 NW Pine Lake Dr., Stuart, FL 34994.

Arrangements are entrusted to Aycock Funeral Home, 1504 SE Floresta Drive, Port St. Lucie, FL. www.aycockportstlucie.com.
