William Louis Surovik
November 19, 1918 - July 28, 2016

William Louis Surovik, Jr., Col. US Army retired, 97, of Caldwell, was called home to the Lord on Thursday, July 28, 2016. A Masonic service will be held graveside on Saturday, July 30, at 7 pm in the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery. Reverend David Johnson will preside over services. Funeral services have been entrusted to Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.
William Louis Surovik, Jr., was born in Caldwell, TX to his parents William L. and Inez (Alford) Surovik, Sr., on November 19, 1918. William went into the US Army after graduating from Texas A&M in 1941 with a Degree as a Chemical Engineer. While in the army he was stationed at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force in Western Europe which was commanded by U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower. He worked closely with the allied forces to plan the Normandy Invasion. William was awarded a Bronze Star Medal along with many other service medals for his service to our country. After he was Honorably Discharged he joined the reserve forces and after 30 years of service he retired as a Colonel in the US Army.
William was a proud member of the Caldwell community and the oldest member of the First United Methodist Church. He was also very active in community events being a member of the American Legion Post 451, and the VFW Post 4458. William was also a member of Warren Lodge No. 56, A.F. & A.M. in Caldwell, Texas, The Scottish Rite and Ben Hur Temple of the Shrine.
William Louis Surovik, Jr., is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sara Jo (Rutherford) Surovik; a son, Richard Surovik; a daughter, Jayne Wolz and husband Emmitt; a granddaughter, Julie Weatherly and husband TJ; and a great grandson, Levi Weatherly.
