Charles Raymond Schlegel Jr.

Charles Raymond Schlegel, Jr., of Seguin, Texas went to his Heavenly home, surrounded by his loving family, on July 25, 2016. He was 72 years old. Visitation will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary on Friday, July 29, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Amazing Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Davis officiating and military honors.

Private graveside services and interment will be held at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Chuck or Charlie, as he was called by all who knew him, was born to Charles Schlegel, Sr. and Lela (Reichardt) Shafer on July 12, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa. Chuck attended Edgewood High School in San Antonio and graduated from Central High School in Sioux City.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and then attended Texas A&M University where he majored in Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences, graduating in 1973. Chuck then went to work as a Registered Sanitarian, for the City of Austin/ Travis County and the City of San Marcos, retiring from both. Chuck boasted that his greatest achievement, aside from raising four girls, was “writing the book” on mobile vending permits and responsibilities. Chuck’s real passion however, was that of antique restoration.

He opened a business, “Absolute Stripping, Etc.,” where he was known as the “Best Stripper in Town!” Chuck devoted his life to his family and his hobbies; he was fond of telling them he was a Jack-of-all-trades, and a master of none. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles R. Schlegel, Sr.; step-father, Robert “Bob” Shafer; brother, Paul Schlegel; and step-brother Mike Shafer. Charles is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 40 years, Elaine (Lynn) Schlegel; mother Lela Shafer; daughters, Jennifer Clark and husband Heath, Becky Leitko and husband Jeff, Kelly Soefje and husband Kenneth, Gwendolyn Farmer and husband Lanny; grandchildren Heather and Samantha Clark, Robert and Connor Garrett, William and Faith Clark; Matthew and David Leitko; Kolten, Lexi, Charlie, Christian, Gus, and Elliott Soefje; Kaden and Layla Steubing; great-granddaughter, Parker Morton; step-brother, Pat Shafer; step-sisters, Denise Forman and Norma Brownfield; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Heath Clark, Jeff Leitko, Kenneth Soefje, Lanny Farmer, and Kolten Soefje.
