Shewsun "Sonny" Lew
November 2, 1933 - July 19, 2016
Shewsun "Sonny" Lew was born the third of nine children, in San Antonio, TX, to immigrant parents from Guandong, China, who owned a grocery store on S.Presa Street. He graduated from Brackenridge HS in 1951, and Texas A&M in 1955 earning a BBA.
Commissioned an Army 2LT, he spent 2 years as a guided Nike missile officer in the Seattle Defense Sector. In 1957, he married Bessie Wong.
He served in the Army Reserves for 26 years, as a field artillery officer and instructor in C&GS College, retiring in 1985 as Lt. Colonel.
He faithfully served at First Chinese Baptist Church as: worship leader, VBS leader, Sunday school director, council member, choir member, van driver, and handyman.
Survived by: wife of 58 years, Bessie Lew; siblings: Lili SooHoo, Ella (Bob) Yee, Wing (Yee) Lew, Walter (Sandy) Lew; children: Lori, Stuart (Jeanette), Anne (Brian) Dohmann; grandsons: Gregory Lew, Seth Dohmann; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church San Antonio TV Ministry, 515 McCullough Ave, SAT 78215.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016, 10:00 am at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, with interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
