Ronnie G. Murphey
April 30, 1943 - July 22, 2016
Ronnie G. Murphey, 73, entered into his eternal rest on Friday, July 22, 2016. He was born on April 30, 1943 in Groesbeck, Texas to Irma Louise and Pete Murphey.
Ronnie graduated from William Adams High School in 1960 and from Texas A & M University, where he served in the Corps of Cadets, in 1965 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Ronnie married Howardene Swenney on February 26, 1966. He was commissioned into the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 and was honorably discharged in 1974. He then moved back to South Texas with his family and lived in Orange Grove. Ronnie worked for Murlynson Drilling Company, Murphey Well Service, and Acock Engineering.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Howardene Swenney Murphey of Orange Grove; two daughters, Kathryn (Mark) Hitt of College Station and Jennifer (Dwayne) Sleight of Alice; one son, Kevin (Elizabeth) Murphey of Odem; one brother, Gary (Sue) Murphey of Ft. Collins, Colorado; three grandchildren, Jaycee Sleight of Corpus Christi, Jonathan Hitt and Rachel Hitt of College Station; his nephews, Peter (Nicole) Murphey, Michael (Lindsey) Murphey, Joey Murphey and John Murphey; his uncle E. J. (Mardele) Wilson; as well as numerous cousins and great-nieces and –nephews.
The family would like to thank his military family of brothers, United States Air Force, the 555th Red Horse Squadron, for their support of Ronnie’s family.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Holmgreen Mortuary.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel.
Interment will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, Corpus Christi, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jim Wells County Veterans Service Office, the Wounded Warriors Organization, the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice.
