Charles Dorsey Tubb

Birth: Feb. 1, 1923
Death: Dec. 24, 2003

CANADIAN - Charles Dorsey Tubb, 80, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, in Pampa.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. John Duncan, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors.

Mr. Tubb was born Feb. 1, 1923, to Charles and Laura Dorsey Tubb. Dorsey was born of a true pioneer family and had the same roaming spirit. His dream of seeing more of the world than the South Pacific was very deep. He served with the 863rd Engineers Avaition Battalion of the Army.

Dorsey loved ranching and had purchased a small herd of cattle with money sent home while he was overseas during World War II. When he returned from the war, he began ranching and farming with his father.

He was married to Virginia Kelley on Jan. 27, 1951. She also shared the love of the land and joined Dorsey in farming and ranching. They made a team with Dorsey ranching and Gena farming. Together they dreamed of traveling and in 1974, made the first trip out of the United States to Australia.

For the next 25 years they traveled many, many countries and all but five of the United States. They both retired from ranching in 1978 and from farming in 1981. Dorsey and Gena continued traveling until July 1998, when traveling became too much for health reasons. Dorsey resided at Abraham Memorial Home from November 2002 until his death.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Tubb and wife, Cindy Bailey, of Amarillo; a daughter, Teresa Abbott and husband, Jay, of Katy; and two grandchildren, Robert Reid Abbott and Julie Ann Abbott, both of Katy.
