September 6, 1924 - July 16, 2016
Emmett Trant, 91, of Bryan, passed away on Saturday July 16, 2016 in his home. A service commemorating his life will be held at 4pm on Sunday July 24, 2016 in the Chapel at Arbor Oaks. Private inurnment will be held a later date. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers.
Emmett was born in San Angelo, Texas to Bess Nall Trant and Emmett Trant, Sr. The family moved to Bryan when Emmett was eight. Emmett graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and entered Texas A&M College as a member of the Class of 1945. World War II interrupted his education. Following service in the Army Emmett returned to A&M to complete his education, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Architecture.
His firm, Emmett Trant & Associates, designed shopping centers, schools, Churches, nursing homes, jails, court houses and others buildings in Bryan and College Station as well as in many cities throughout the state. The firm was involved in over six hundred building projects. Emmett's last position before retiring was to serve as Consulting Architect for the construction the Texas A&M Foundation Building. Emmett was a member of the American Institute of Architects.
Emmett was active in the US Army reserves until September of 1984 when he retired with the rank of major. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his first wife of fifty years Mary Munn Trant; daughter Teresa Sagona; sister Dorothy Trant Dodson; and brother Richard Nall Trant.
Emmett is survived by his wife Betty Westbrook Trant; daughter Polly Trant and husband Robert Beals, daughter Laurie and husband Robert Gage; his son-in-law Tom Sagona; sister-in-law Heidi Trant; grandchildren Charly Stagg, Alexander Munse, Jessica and Timothy Sagona; his five great-grandchildren; a niece Deborah Chandler and nephew Timothy Dodson.
