Douglas "Doug" Douthit
October 1, 1933 - July 8, 2016

Douglas “Doug” Douthit, 82, of Longview, passed away at his home on Friday, July 8, 2016, under the care of HeartsWay Hospice after a lengthy illness with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Funeral services for Mr. Douthit will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Rev. David English and Chaplain Phil Hobson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Mineola, TX. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Tuesday morning prior to the service.
Doug was born in Beeville, TX on October 1, 1933 but was raised in Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff area. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and was a member of the Core of Cadets and the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. After graduation and receiving his commission, he served in the US Army. His entire professional career was spent with Texaco, INC., Natural Gas Division where he held several mid-level management positions in New Orleans and Tulsa. He chose early retirement while in Tulsa after 35 years and moved to Longview in 1989. He was a Registered Professional Engineer for the state of Texas.
After retirement, he was very active as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, a member of First Baptist Church Saints Alive Singers and Bread of Life Sunday school class. While in New Orleans he taught Sunday school for several years. Doug was an avid Bible student, a dedicated runner and worker and loved to hike mountains.
He met and married his true love, Jeanene, in 1962, while they were both employed in Midland. After transferring to New Orleans in 1967, their daughter, Julie, was born. His survivors include Jeanene, his wife of 53 years; daughter Julie McReynolds and husband Weldon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and several cousins.
The family wishes to thank Hearts Way Hospice, Dr. Robert Sanson, nurses Barbara, Channing, Tim, Kelli, Debbie, Tonia, and Gayle, CNA aide. Also Chaplain Phil Hobson and Tracy. A special thanks to Dawn Leach, CNA, who enabled Jeanene to care for Doug at home for 5 years. The family request that memorial donations be made to HeartsWay Hospice, or to Meals on Wheels.
