Billy Bain Gorden
December 21, 1927 - June 18, 2016

Services for Billy Bain Gorden, 88, of Temple will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Temple with the Reverend Ronny Marriott and the Reverend Charles Dodd officiating. Burial will be at Little Flock Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Gorden died Saturday, June 18, at a Temple hospital after a long illness. He was born December 21, 1927, to William Newton Gorden and Sarah Ethel Clark Gorden, in Temple.
He was a graduate of Temple High School and Texas A & M University. One August 8, 1948, he married Janice Skinner. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, for which he served as a Greeter, Usher and Deacon. He was also the great grandson of the Reverend Anderson Clark, one of the founders and first pastor of the church. Mr. Gorden had a long career as a dairy and crop farmer, and also worked many years for the Texas Crop and Livestock Reporting Service.
Mr. Gorden’s passion was helping people. He was a member of the Temple Exchange Club, the Sunset Kiwanis Club and the Masonic Lodge. He served six years as the director of the Temple Soap Box Derby. In addition, he served 10 years on the Temple Independent School District Board of Education, including several years as President. Mr. Gordon was active in the Texas Early Day Tractor and Engine Association. He also has been instrumental in assisting a number of local young farmers starting their careers.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; two sons, Robert Gorden (Colleen) and Todd Gorden (Debbie), and one daughter, Terri Martin (Norris), all of Temple; eight grandchildren Jennifer Phy (Joe), Jeremy Gorden (Laura), Candi Ketcham (Steven), Brian Gorden (Cayle), Justin Martin, Lana Martin (Dylan), Sarah Hilliard (Bobbie), and Stephen Sudlow; and seven great grandchildren, Taylor Ketcham, Skylar Ketcham, Lenore Phy, Ben Gorden, Sean Gorden, Lucas Gorden, and Jackson Hilliard. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Minnie Ruth Sanderson, and his nephew, Gorden Ray Sanderson.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to First Baptist Church in Temple.
Visitation will be 6 – 8 Tuesday, June21, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
