1923 - 2016

John E. Post, a long time Andrews County, Texas and Lea County New Mexico rancher went to be with our Lord on June 14th, 2016 in Prescott, AZ at the age of 93. He was born in Corsicana, Texas on January 25th, 1923 to Carl and Lou Ed Post, now deceased. Also deceased are Zonelle Post Hardy, sister, and Charles W. Post, Jr., brother.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at a memorial service at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 7, 2016 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Rev. Robert Pase officiating. John completed grade school in Midland, Texas and later graduated from Jal High School in Jal, New Mexico in 1941 before attending Texas A & M for two years.

In 1934 his family moved from Midland to a four-section tract of land in western Andrews County that John’s grandparents had homesteaded in 1909. Carl, and later John, purchased a considerable amount of land adjacent to the original homestead. John also leased the C.D. Woolworth ranch (now managed by the Woolworth Trust) in Lea County, New Mexico and operated it for 45 years.

In 1954 he married the former Hazel Ruth Schneider and they were married for 55 years. She died in 2009.

John served on the board of directors of the Andrews County Soil & Water Conservation District for 29 years. He also served on the board of directors of the Sweetwater Production Credit Association for four years. In the early 1980s, John was honored by the Texas section of the Society of Range Management at a reception in Lubbock and given the “Excellence in Grazing” award. The Jal Chamber of Commerce named John and Hazel “Pioneers of the Year” for 2005 and honored them with a reception at the annual Cowboy Days event in 2007. John was a Lutheran and had attended Faith Lutheran Church in Andrews, Texas for many years.

John is survived by his son John E. Post, Jr. and wife Vicki of Prescott, AZ; son David A. Post of Andrews County, and two granddaughters, Clairelise and Elisabeth Post, of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
