John Grady Wilson, Jr.: 1928-2016

John Grady Wilson, Jr. passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2016.

Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 17, 2016, at Paramount
Baptist Church, 3801 S. Western St. with Lance Herrington officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

He was born in Fabens, Texas to Bertie Shoemaker and John Grady Wilson, Sr. He was a 1949 graduate of Texas A&M University. That same year, he married his wife of 63 years, Ellen Ricketts of Waco.

Grady wore many hats during his lifetime, farmer, dairy manager, demolition contractor, agricultural chemical salesman, and owner of Home and Garden Pest Control.

He attended Paramount Baptist Church. He was a Master Mason and Past Master of Tascosa Lodge #1375. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies. He also was a member of Palo Duro Lodge #1239, Khiva Shrine and was a charter member of the Khiva Shrine Oriental Band. He was Past Presidents of Khiva Oriental Band, the Texas Association of Shrine Oriental Bands and the Amarillo Area A&M Club.

He was met at the gates by his wife Ellen, his parents, his infant brother, Harold, and his son-in-law, Alan Prater.

He leaves behind his children, Linda Blake and husband Bruce of Amarillo, John Grady Wilson III of Amarillo, Kevin Wilson of Mustang OK. and Melissa Wilson Prater of Amarillo; grandchildren, Dr. Brooke Blake of Galveston, Dylan and Meg Wilson of Mustang, Lauren and Ben Plemons, Seth and Allison Prater, and his great-grandson, Samuel Plemons and brother to be, baby Plemons, all of Amarillo.

Memorials can be made to Ladder of Smiles c/o Khiva Oriental Band or Khiva Shrine Center Transportation Fund, at 305 SE 5th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101.
