Russell Sutton
Russell Clark Sutton, P.E.
1946-2016
Our "Aggie", Russell, took the hand of his Lord and Savior on June 28th after a two year courageous battle with cancer. He was the only son of Francis Earl and Beverly Clark Sutton who preceded him. Russ was born March 5, 1946, and was a lifelong resident of Houston, TX.
He graduated from Reagan High School class of 1964. Accepted to Texas A & M University, he was a member of the 11 Squadron, Corps of Cadets, graduating in 1968 (Bachelor in Science, Mechanical Engineering). Russ then completed his graduate studies at the University of Houston (Masters in Engineering Management). Russell's professional career as a project manager, building power plants both foreign and domestic, lasted over forty years.
Russell was raised in the fellowship of Heights Presbyterian Church, and later became a member of St. Timothy's Methodist Church, where he served as a member of the Executive Board, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Men's Club. He was a Harris County Sherriff's Reserve Officer in active duty for 26 years, with the rank of Captain when he retired. He was also a member of the Professional Engineering Society, Mensa International, and the National Eagle Scout Association.
Russell is survived by his beautiful daughter, Sarah Clem (Chris) of Red Rock, AZ; his son and hero, Sgt. James Sutton (Sarah) of Grand Rapids, MI; his precious grandchildren, Seth Clem, Amy Clem, Tyler Sutton, Mollie Sutton, and a grandson expected in November. He is also survived by his step-children, Dr. Shannon Lane of Huntsville, TX, and Wesley Lane of Houston, TX. He treated his step-children as his own, and they adored him. He is also survived by his beloved Aunt Betty Tribble and her family, and his sister, Terry Sutton. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Janice, who will cherish the memories of their life together, and the love they shared.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 4th, from 3-6 Pm at Heights Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held the following morning at 10 AM in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
Memorials in Russell's name may be directed toward a scholarship to benefit a member of Squadron 11 at Texas A & M University. Payable to: Texas A & M Foundation, 401 George Bush Dr., College Station, TX 77840-2811.
