Arthur Newton Waggoner | 1935-2016

Arthur Newton Waggoner, 81, died Friday, June 10, 2016, in Decatur.

Arthur was born Feb. 27, 1935, in Dallas to Arthur Norman and Virginia Lou Pedigo Waggoner. Arthur married his sweetheart, Virginia Arlene Waggoner, March 6, 1953, in Dallas. They were married for 63 years.

Arthur was a graduate of Texas A&M College, Class of 1958. He was a computer scientist and eventually owned his own business, Systems Alliance. He and his wife spent most of their lives in Garland, eventually fulfilling their dream of retiring to Rocky Comfort, Mo. They lived the past two years in Decatur.

Arthur was a lifelong learner who loved to read and discuss a wide variety of topics from politics to science to music. He loved music and played the French horn and piano throughout his life. His children “fondly” remember waking up to the sound of classical music filling their home as Arthur practiced his French horn. He was a performing member of the Bella Vista Arkansas community band.

Arthur also enjoyed gardening and was able to spend many hours at their farm in Missouri gardening and raising cattle and sheep. He had a sarcastic sense of humor that he especially enjoyed with his brother David.

A firm believer in individual rights, Arthur founded the McDonald County Property Rights group, and he successfully led several initiatives to protect property rights in that county.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Charlotte Ann Waggoner.

He is survived by his loving wife; children Robert Waggoner and wife, Debbie, Mark Waggoner and wife, Nancy, and Kathryn (Waggoner) Hoffmeyer and husband, Tom.

Other survivors include his brother, William David Waggoner and wife, Dalta; grandchildren Carrie (Waggoner) Reese and husband, Scotty, Brent Waggoner and wife, Kassia, Andy Waggoner and wife, Kourtney, Jamie Waggoner and Laura Waggoner; and great-grandchild Evelyn Elsie Reese; and many nieces and nephews.
