Burt Hunter Reiff(1959 - 2016)
Irving - Burt Hunter Reiff grew up in Rio Hondo and attended school there before entering Texas A&M University. He earned a degree in petroleum engineering and was always proud to call himself an Aggie. Following his graduation Burt was employed by Exxon in California and then by a subsidiary of Halliburton in Louisiana. When the oil business slowed down, he worked in turn as a math teacher, a firefighter, and a finish carpenter during the ensuing years. He was always glad of an opportunity to help others through his handy-work. One of his hobbies was competing in 100-mile bicycle races in both California and South Texas. His Christian faith was his stronghold. Wherever he lived, he could be found in church on Sundays.

Burt entered into the fullness of heaven on May 31, 2016. While riding his bicycle on a highway near Irving, he was struck by a motorist and killed. In spite of this tragedy, his organ donations will continue to touch many lives. This beautiful gift reflected his loving spirit. Burt was preceded in death by his father Irving R. (Budd) Reiff. He is survived by his mother Joan Reiff, brother Michael (Mickey) Reiff, sisters Meri Pachuilo and Charlotte Anderson, nephews Hunter Anderson and Dominic Pachuilo, and extended family and friends.

The family is grateful for the care given Burt at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas, by its attending medical staff.

A celebration of Burt's life, led by Pastor Chris Hall, will begin with a 1:15 p.m. graveside service at Rio Hondo City Cemetery, June 18th. This will be followed by a 2:00 memorial service at Rio Hondo Community Church. A time for visiting, to which all are invited, will then be held in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers if desired, memorial gifts may be made to Rio Hondo Community Church, P.O. Box 157, Rio Hondo, TX, 78583. Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, Harlingen, is in charge of arrangements. The telephone number is (956) 423-3636 if more information is needed.
