Gerald M
York
1927 - 2016

Gerald McClendon York of Corsicana passed away in Longview, Texas on June 2, 2016. Mr. York was born on January 21, 1927 in Cameron, Texas to Edwin Selby York and Anne McClendon York. He is preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 65 years Brucilla Ann York and his children Samuel David York and wife Cherisa of Kilgore, Rebecca Ann York Pate and husband Howard of College Station and Steven Fred York and wife Yoli of San Antonio. Also surviving Mr. York are his grandchildren Colin York and his wife Cynthia of Bristow, Virginia, Barrett York of San Antonio, Lacey Pate of Bryan, Landon Pate of Bryan, Josh York of San Antonio, Nick York of College Station and his great-granddaughter Sarah York of Bristow, Virginia

Mr. York was raised in Belton, Texas where he graduated from Belton High School in 1944. While a student there he earned the prestigious Lone Star Farmer degree from the state Future Farmers of America Association. Gerald was a proud member of the fighting Texas Aggie class of 1948 where he received a BS in Agricultural Education and a MS in Sociology. While at A&M, he served as editor of The Battalion newspaper. He loved Texas A&M dearly and passed his passion for all things Aggie on to his children and grandchildren. His education was briefly interrupted by World War II while he served in the United States Navy. After completing his undergraduate education, he began a seventeen year career with the Agricultural Extension Service starting in Ladonia, Texas where he met his bride Ann. He worked as an extension agent, district extension agent and at the State 4H Club office before being recruited by the First National Bank of Corsicana to become an agricultural loan officer. He continued a long and successful career in banking with Community National Bank and Trust of Texas. After a brief retirement, Gerald was instrumental in establishing a branch of Community National Bank and Trust of Texas in Frost where he served as president.

Gerald was actively involved in serving his community and church. He and Ann have been members of the First United Methodist Church of Corsicana since 1960 where he was on many committees and taught Sunday school up until his illness this past year. He also spent many hours working for local youth through the Navarro County Youth Expo and was a major force in raising the funds to build the facilities for that organization which are still in use today. He also served on various advisory boards and committees too numerous to mention.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Monday June 6, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Corsicana with Dr. Steven Bell officiating followed by a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. Jayson Galler officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Colin York, Barrett York, Nick York, Josh York, Landon Pate, K.C. “Kim” Wyatt, Tim Stites and Greg Hayes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Corsicana at 320 N. 15th Street, Corsicana, Texas 75110.
