Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Hanau-Schaumburg passed peacefully in his San Antonio home with his wife, Maria, and son, Christoph present. Born in Castle Horowitze, Czech Republic to Heinrich Prince von Hanau Count von Schaumburg and Maria Theresia Princess von Hanau, Countess von Schaumburg, born Countess von Fugger-Babenhausen.

Friedrich Prince von Hanau Count von Schaumburg attended school in Schule Schloss Salem, Germany. Subsequently he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Texas A&M University.

As an Austrian at the age of 17, Friedrich was conscripted into the German Army shortly before World War II's end. A few years after war's end he was given the opportunity, sponsored by the Van Brunt family, to come to San Antonio and obtained his US citizenship. He was drafted into the US Army during the Korean conflict.

Through mutual friends, Friedrich met his wife, Maria de Kossaczky in San Antonio and they were happily married for exactly 62 years. Friedrich and Maria are survived by a son: Christoph Prince von Hanau Count von Schaumburg who married Candace, née McDonnell, and grandchildren Victoria and Maximilian.

Most of Friedrich's career was as an automotive executive beginning with Volkswagen of America, Porsche/Audi of North America and culminating as a founding national executive of BMW of North America. He was a trustee of the San Antonio Museum of Art, member of the Conopus Club and The Argyle.

The family resided in several US and international locations yet they continually returned to San Antonio and to their Texas friendships spanning over 50 years. Business colleagues, friends and family fondly remember Friedrich's congeniality, patience and humor.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Dick Oliver Creamer, F. Peter Herff II., F. Peter Herff III., Colonel Robert E. Kelso, A. Jack Lewis, Jr., Walter S. Light and Patrick H. Swearingen, Jr.

Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday, June 16th at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Grace Church, Sunshine Cottage or a .
