George Lyndal Randal, II was born August 7, 1935, in Dallas, Texas, to Elizabeth Nesseler Randal and George Lyndal Randal. Raised in Dallas along with sister, Betty, Lyndal graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1953. During high school, Lyndal met the love of his life, Gail Jester. They dated through high school and maintained a long-distance relationship during college when he went to Texas A&M and she went to Texas Tech and SMU. Lyndal graduated from Texas A&M in 1958. He and Gail were married July 25, 1958, at St. Matthew's Cathedral for a beautiful, loving marriage that lasted almost 58 years. In 1959, Lyndal and Gail joined Park Cities Baptist Church where they raised their three children and made life-long friends. Lyndal served as an usher. He and Gail were both active in Sunday School, and they enjoyed more 42 years of membership at the church.
A mechanical engineer by trade, Lyndal maintained a long career at Texas Instruments where he worked under top secret clearance on government projects, designing weapons-including the Javelin Missile-for the U.S. military. He also contributed to the development of the Polaroid Instamatic camera and received top awards for his work. During his career at TI, Lyndal and Gail also started two businesses-one at The Dallas Apparel Mart and the other an antiques business called Two Old Crows.
Lyndal loved to take his family on wonderful trips. Many weekends and vacations were spent road tripping and camping with the family in their Airstream trailer, or heading off to snow ski in Winter Park, Colorado. He was a family man and was always there for the important things including coaching soccer, leading Indian Guides and Webelos groups, camping with the Boy Scouts, and teaching his kids how to swim, water ski, maintain their cars, and make homemade ice cream. He took delight in his children and grandchildren and if there was a game, performance, awards ceremony, or recital to attend, he and Gail were in the audience.
In younger years, Lyndal was a pilot and enjoyed flying. He enjoyed many things in life, and particularly liked outdoor activities including fishing, boating, water and snow skiing, hiking, working, or anything involving friends and family. Other favorites were Aggie football and Dallas Cowboys games. And with a bit of a sweet tooth, you could always count on Lyndal to join you in having dessert.
After retirement, Lyndal and Gail bought and moved to their dream home at Lake Lydia, near Quitman, Texas. The house has beautiful, sweeping views of the lake from a large, screened porch. Lyndal loved nothing more than to be outside doing yard work, chopping wood, fishing, walking the dog, and visiting with neighbors. He and Gail both loved the quiet country life and small-town pace and they helped to found Faith Baptist Church in Quitman.
In July 2015, they moved back to Dallas to be near their children. They rejoined Park Cities Baptist Church, renewed old friendships, and continued to enjoy life. On May 30, 2016, God decided Lyndal's journey was complete and called him home to his eternal reward in Heaven where he lives today.
Lyndal is survived by wife, Gail Jester Randal; daughter, Beth Dunn and husband, David; daughter, Jennifer Harrell and husband, Steve; and son, Trey Randal and wife, Mori. Grandchildren: Preston Harrell and wife, Brittany; Shelby Harrell; Courtney Dunn; Laura Dunn; Trevor Randal; Claire Randal; and Carter Randal. And last, but certainly not least – beloved schnauzer dog, Bentley.
The family wishes to thank the many wonderful doctors and other staff at UT Southwestern, the faithful therapists who worked with Lyndal on both physical and memory care, the compassionate staff and residents at Five Star Premier Residences of Dallas where Lyndal lived, and the many friends and relatives who offered their love and support.
