Robert Thomas Irons
IRONS, Robert Thomas Robert Thomas Irons born in Philadelphia, PA on March 13, 1930 to Watrous H. Irons and Marie Thomas Irons. He moved to Austin, Texas in September 1937 and then to Dallas, Texas in 1943. He attended Highland Park High School where he was a member of the 1947 State Finalist football team, being selected as an All District and Honorable Mention All State guard. He graduated in January 1948. He attended Texas A&M, graduating in 1952 with a B.A. degree in Economics. He worked for Dallas Power & Light Co. and The Travelers Insurance Co. During this time, he was an active member of the Dallas Jaycees, serving as a Director, State Vice President and a National Director of the U.S. Jaycees. He served in the U.S. Army and the Texas National Guard, 49th Armored Division, retiring in 1970 as a Major. He entered the home furnishing industry in 1966. He and his partner opened one of the first showrooms in the Dallas World Trade Center in January 1974. He owned Robert Irons & Co., Inc. until he retired in November 2007. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Leslie, his son Russell Irons of Keller, his daughters Susan Gould of Austin and Laura Wine of Houston and his stepsons Dr. Andrew Troup of Bakersfield, CA and Alexander Troup of Washington, DC as well as eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 4 at 11:00 am at Church of the Incarnation, Dallas, Tx.
