Mr. Milton E. (Bill) Moore
August 21, 1918 - May 30, 2016

Milton E. Moore (Bill), age 97, went to his heavenly home May 30, 2016 at his home in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Moore was born in St. Louis, MO to the late Erle and Mildred Moore. He graduated high school in North Dallas and was in the Class of 1941 at Texas A&M before enlisting in the Army Air Forces and becoming a flying cadet in the Army Air Corps. He was commissioned May 29, 1941 and sent immediately to Clark Field, near Manila as pilot of a twin engine bomber. During World War II, he was one of the original members of the famous Bombardment Group who flew their battered Flying Fortresses against unbelievable odds in the Far East. Along with the unit citations given the group, he was individually awarded the Oak Leaf Cluster for gallantry in action. After having honorably served in active service in the Army of the United States from May 1941 to March 18, 1946, he married Kathleen Cavin from Rosetta, Mississippi, December 29, 1946. He flew for Eastern Airlines for 31 years. He joined the company March 1947 and was elevated to captain in 1957. He flew the Boeing 727 Whisperjet. Bill served as deacon of the Living Words Church in Dunwoody for several years. He and his wife, Kathy, were married for 60 years before her death. They enjoyed playing golf, taking care of the yard and tending a vegetable garden. Bill was a very humble, compassionate person.

Mr. Moore is survived by his children, Candy and Don and daughter-in-law, Barbara; his grandsons Eric and wife, Shalan and Kyle and wife, Erin and their children Cooper and Harper.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, June 1 at the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with Rev. John Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday night from 6:30 to 7:30 PM and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gideons International.
