Edward Franklin Houser Jr.
Edward Franklin Houser, Jr. LUBBOCK-Edward Franklin Houser, Jr. was born Feb. 1, 1930, in Big Spring, Texas, to Ann (Gibson) Houser and Edward F. Houser. He died May 22, 2016, in Lubbock, Texas. There will be an informal celebration of his life for family and friends on Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite charity . Ed was raised and educated in Big Spring by a loving mother. He remembered a happy childhood with his brother, Jerry, his sister, Susie, and many good friends. Football and basketball were his favorite subjects in high school. He attended Texas A&M College, where he played varsity basketball. With the financial help of two Big Spring men, Ed was able to enter medical school at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, in 1953. In early 1954, he met Kathryn (Kay) Gromatzky, and they were married that year in Eden, Texas. According to him, she chased him until she caught him. Dallas was home to Ed and Kay while he completed medical school and residency. Three children were born to this couple during those years. The family moved to Lubbock in 1963 where he began his practice of urological surgery. He was a competent and dedicated physician during his 28 years of practice. As a man who wore many hats, Ed was a devoted husband and father. Family vacations were camping and water or snow skiing. His motto was first on the slopes or lake and last to leave. With great interest and love, he watched his children mature and go their way. He enjoyed golf, tennis, and hunting. His interest in the universe fascinated and puzzled him. He read Einstein's Theory of Relativity many times! Gardening was another hobby, and his yard reflected his passion for the beautiful aspects of nature. His friends knew of his collection of tools! He will be missed by his wife; daughter, Beth, and husband, Chuck; daughter, Melissa, and husband, Geoff Sheean; son, Bruce, and wife, Debbie; and three precious granddaughters: Madison and Cameryn Houser, and Emma Sheean; sister, Susan Brinegar; Kelley, wife of deceased brother, Jerry, and many favorite nieces and nephews. Memories of his love for life, for family, and friends will comfort us.
