Tommy Eugene Sawyer(10/8/1933 - 5/22/2016)
Tommy Sawyer was born in Stamford, Texas on October 8th, 1933, to parents Alton and Marie Sawyer, and passed away on May 22nd, 2016. In 1952, Tommy graduated from Birdville High School where he was the district's leading scorer in basketball. He attended Tyler Junior College on a basketball scholarship, and was recently inducted into the Sports Circle of Honor. It was at TJC that he met the most wonderful and kindest love of his life, Gwendolyn Ann Pietzsch. They married in 1954, then transferred to Texas A&M where Tom was a member of the varsity basketball team.

Tommy served as a teacher, a coach and a Distributive Education (CTE) Coordinator in Grand Prairie ISD for 34 years. While teaching, he obtained a Master's Degree from UNT, and was a candidate for the TAMU Notable Graduates. He was involved in the Noon Lion's Club, the Hella Shrine, where he was editor of the Camel's Calf, and was a 32nd degree Mason. He regularly wrote trivia and numismatic columns for various newspapers. He greatly enjoyed officiating high school and college basketball games via the Dallas Basketball Officials Association, and being a judge in both state and national Golden Gloves.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gwendolyn Sawyer, their children: Suzanne Sylvester, William (Mary), Don (Pamela), and Greg Sawyer; and, their grandchildren: Shannon Sawyer, and Russell and Alyssa Sylvester. His wit and his counsel will be missed dearly.

Services will be held at CrossPoint Church of Christ at 11 am, Saturday, May 28th, and memorials will be accepted at the CrossPoint Building Fund: 3020 Bardin Rd, Grand Prairie, Texas
