James "Jimmy" Dunn Seymour, Jr.
December 7, 1927 - May 20, 2016

Mr. James Dunn Seymour, Jr. (Jimmy), 88, passed away in Columbus, Texas, on Friday, May 20, 2016.

Jimmy was born on December 7, 192[7] in Columbus, Texas to James Dunn Seymour, Sr. and Jeanette Miles Seymour. He attended Columbus schools and graduated from Columbus High School in 1945. He attended Texas A&M College, serving in the Reserve Officer Training Corps and graduated in 1949. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery, First Cavalry Division, and was posted to Fort Hood, Texas and then to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In 1950 and 1951 he had several tours of combat duty in Korea, serving in a number of offensives, beginning with the Inchon Landing. He was awarded a number medals for his service, including 2 Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He entered the U. S. Army Reserve in 1954 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain in 1962.

Jimmy married Dena Rebecca Lyles on May 27, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Columbus. In 1954, he returned to Columbus to join the family businesses, S. K. Seymour Lumber, and J. D. Seymour Texaco. Until 1977. He served as a Board Member of the First State Bank from 1960-1973. In 1977, he became a Board Member and later an officer with the Colorado County Federal Savings and Loan in Columbus, later serving as President and retiring in 1989. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Columbus throughout his life, serving as a deacon and many other leadership and service positions. He was committed to community life and public service, including membership for over 60 years in the Rotary Club, as well as the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Colorado County Fair Association, Shrine Club, and Masonic Lodge. He also served terms on the Columbus City Council and was an officer with the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Dena Lyles Seymour, his sister and brother-in-law, Nell Seymour and R. C. (Dick) Waddell of Odessa. He is survived by his three children and their spouses: Dr. John W. (Carolyn) Seymour of Mankato, Minnesota; James R. (Cathy) Seymour of Missouri City, Texas; and Thomas L. Seymour (partner Dr. Robert Burress) of Houston, Texas. He is survived by five grandchildren: Christine Seymour Baumann (spouse Tim) of Minot, North Dakota; Meredith Seymour of Oceanside, California, and Mitchell, Michael, and Mason Seymour of Missouri City.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Columbus, Texas.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Columbus with Rev. Victor Morrison officiating under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home, Columbus, TX.

Interment will follow with military honors by the V.F.W. Post #6113 of Columbus and Masonic Burial Rites by Caledonia Lodge #68 of Columbus at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus.

Pallbearers are First Baptist Church Deacons: John Cates, Jon Gregory, Terry Rossignol, John Miller, Dr. Sandy Bahm, Alan Brandt, and Lloyd Cryer.

Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
