Patricia Irene (Whatley) Moore

Moore, Patricia Irene
Patricia Irene (Whatley) Moore
October 12, 1953 – May 17, 2016

Patricia Irene (Whatley) Moore passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2016 in her family’s home in Bryan, Texas at the age of 62. Though her life ended too soon, her final days were spent the way she had always lived – by serving her community and its students and loving her family. Visitation and the rosary (6pm) will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, College Station, Texas Friday May 20, 5:30 p.m. until 8:00. The funeral mass will be held Saturday May 21 at 11:00 a.m., also at St. Thomas Aquinas.

Patti, the youngest child of Thomas and Irene Whatley, was born on October 12, 1953 in Texarkana, Arkansas. Patti always made it very clear that despite her birthplace, she was a Texan through and through. Patti’s family lived all over the United States during her childhood, but when she found Aggieland she found her heart’s home and the love of her life, Dave. She was the loudest and proudest member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1975. Her undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University fostered her passion for education and paved the way for a stellar teaching career in both English Language Arts and Spanish. In 1984, Patti found herself back in College Station to further her education with a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from TAMU, which allowed her to achieve her lifelong goal of becoming a principal at the intermediate and high school level. After 39 years of leadership in Texas schools Patti retired, only to continue teaching. In retirement, Patti flourished. She was able to supervise and mentor student teachers at Texas A&M as well as serve as a surrogate parent for at-risk students in Bryan ISD.

She was preceded in death by her father in-law Marion Moore, mother in-law Nan Moore, uncle Father Paul Thetreau S.J., aunt Betty Reynolds, uncle Joe Reynolds and niece Jennifer Prado.

Patti’s legacy will be carried by her husband of forty years Dave Moore; her children Zack (and wife Laura), Josh (and wife Brandy), Ashley Moore Coffey (and husband Matt); granddaughter Jada and grandson Maddox. Also honoring her memory are her parents Tom and Irene Whatley; her brother Phil Whatley (and wife Cheryl); her sister Linda Prado (and husband Al); and her nieces and nephews, Allison, Jill, Aric, Miriam and Paul.

The family requests any donations made in Patti’s memory be made to the “Patti Moore Academic Achievement Memorial.” Checks can be sent to The Bank & Trust at 2900 Texas Avenue, Bryan, TX 77802 or to an educational organization of your choosing.
