Robert Ewing Armstrong
1923 - 2016

Robert “Bob” Armstrong…age 92, went home to be with The Lord on Friday, May 6, 2016. Robert was born December 9, 1923 in Bryan, Texas. He is reunited in heaven with parents, Robert Volney Armstrong and Mildred Ewing Armstrong, first wife, Eloise Russell Armstrong, son, Robert Russell Armstrong and second wife, Dorothy Allen Armstrong.

Robert left his legacy to his surviving children, his daughter; Alice Howard of Kingwood, Texas. Son; William P. Armstrong of Rogers, Arkansas. Grandchildren; Ashley McDonough, Jayce Howard, Jerald Paul Howard, Anna Armstrong, William B. Armstrong, Jared Armstrong, Phillip Armstrong and Eight Great-Grandchildren. Robert is also survived by his younger brother, William N. Armstrong of Austin, Texas.

Robert Armstrong graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, Texas. In the year of 1941, Robert attended Texas A & M College with an Engineers Major, when called to serve his country. He served the Army proudly during WW11 and was awarded 4 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

After the war, he worked in gas stations and odd jobs until he found his calling. He worked in local banks, learning and making his way to President. He worked with heart and common sense even when computers entered the industry. He could see beyond a computer and was able to grow the business while at the same time, helping his customers. He worked with compassion. After retirement, he was a leader with an organization called SCORE, which helped guide new small business owners to success.

As a dad and granddad, he was a wonderful historian who loved talking history to all of those around. As children and friends, we felt we were at a campfire listening to the wonderful stories he told. When visiting his home in Bryan, we would add another 60 miles traveling and touring his lovely town. He was so proud of Bryan with all the daily progress. He loved his family and his friends. He never said a negative word about anyone. He was a very proud and respected gentleman.
