1938-2016
Larry Hugh Clark, 78, passed away on May 14, 2016 in Houston, Texas after a brief illness. He was born in Longview, TX to Preston and Margaret Clark. He is predeceased by his sister, Shirley Stephenson and nephew Phillip Stephenson. Larry was a graduate of Pasadena High School and member of the All-State Band. He graduated from Texas A&M University, Class of 1960, with an engineering degree. He later attended the executive program at the Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. After graduating from college, he served in the United States Army and Army Reserve. His safety career began with the U.S. Bureau of Mines. He then worked for Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation for over 20 years in the safety, risk management, and real estate divisions. He was an Executive Vice President of the Houston Center, developers of the George R. Brown Convention Center, Park Shops, and Four Seasons Hotel Houston Center. He was a charter member of Memorial Drive Christian Church, where he served in many capacities. His favorite role was that of choir member. His service extended into our community as a Loaned Executive for the United Way. Inspired by his beloved son Michael, his true passion was serving those with special needs. For many years, he was a memberof the Lighthouse of Houston board of directors and member of the Deaf Blind Multihandicapped Association of Texas (DBMAT). He also was a member of the West Houston Leadership Institute. Clark was a beloved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Clark. He has three children: sons Dr. Tracy Clark and wife Dr. Suzanne "Missy" Plum Clark, Michael Clark, daughter Stephanie Clark Oates and husband John Oates. He has six grandchildren: Michael Clark, Danny Plum, Cory Plum and wife Lindsay, David Clark Oates, Amanda Oates, and Ashley Oates. He will be dearly missed. A public visitation will be held at Memorial Oak Funeral Home Wednesday, May 18 from 5pm to 7pm. A memorial service for Mr. Clark will be held at Memorial Drive Christian Church located at 11750 Memorial Drive Houston, Texas 77024 on Thursday May 19 at 11:00 am. A graveside service will also be held on Thursday following the memorial service in Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Lighthouse of Houston.
