Richard M. (Dick) Drake, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a good friend to many, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the age of 84.

He was born on August 4, 1931 to Ema and Haskell Drake in Jonesboro, Texas. One of four children, his family moved to Lake Jackson, Texas in 1943 making them a "Pioneer" family. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1949. He served our country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1954 with the rank of sergeant and immediately enrolled at Texas A&M graduating in 1957 with a BA in accounting. Ever the achiever, after he acquired his degree Richard studied for and acquired a Real Estate Broker's license as well as a license to sell insurance.

Richard began his career at Brown & Root in the accounting department in Houston, Texas. Needing to move back to Lake Jackson to help his widowed mother, he accepted a position with Lake Jackson State Bank in 1958. He then joined the Texas State Bank Examiners team. In 1961 he was offered employment at The Hull State Bank in Hull, Texas. After thirteen years in Hull he was happy to return to Lake Jackson as Executive Vice President of First National Bank in Lake Jackson until his retirement in 1999. After deciding to retire, he was offered the chance to stay on at First National Bank as a consultant and he gladly accepted the offer which lasted until just recently when he was too ill to make it into work each day. Thank you Buddy Baker for that opportunity.

With Richard's passing also is lost a great deal of wisdom which he lovingly shared with all of his grandchildren and his grandchildren's friends. There are so many things we will miss without him, but one of these memories is when we had family gatherings he would go out in the yard and pick whichever flowers were blooming to put in a vase for the table, his first choice was the orange roses that he planted in 1982.

As an avid golfer for 28 years, Richard has had two "Holes in one" to add to his achievements. He enjoyed the Thursday afternoon golf scrambles as well as Sunday morning "Skins" matches with his golfing buddies. It never got too hot or too cold for him to play golf, but his first priority was always his family.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his step father, Aubrey King; brothers, Roger Drake and Roland Drake; one sister, Norma Ruth Drake; nephew, Sandy Drake; sister-in-law, Mary Drake; his mother and father-in-law, Maude and Arthur Broussard; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Broussard; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Lloyd Oldham; and a brother-in-law, Tom Elder.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Maudlynn Drake. His daughters, Julie Creekmore (Fred), Lisa Thomas (Darrell); and son, Richard M. Drake, Jr. Granddaughters, Lindsey Graff (Ivan), Jacqueline Calhoun (Johnny), Kimberly Solis (Harvey), Ricy Stone (Trent). Grandsons, Keith Setzer (Kristen) and Marvin (Ti-Ray) Setzer (Trisha Rice). Four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Caleb and Logan Solis and Triston Stone. Special niece, Heather Weis (Chris) and their two daughters, Stella Weis and Avery Weis. One special nephew, T.J. Broussard (Jenny) and their two children, Truitt Broussard and Silas Broussard. Three sisters-in-law, Gerry Elder, Flo Hall (Joe) and LaVeta Drake; one brother-in-law, Tim Broussard (Mary Louise). Also his many nieces and nephews which he loved dearly, Ellen Hill, Randy Drake, Scott Drake, Jackie Drake, Margaret Reed, Camille Forse, Linda Miller, Helen Zook, Sara Smith, John Elder, Mike Hall, Laura Micheals, Chris Oldham, Greg Oldham, Mary Catherine Cole, Phillip Broussard, Barbara Pocynski, Stephanie Holmes and Cecile Broussard.

Serving as pallbearers are Keith Setzer, Marvin "Ti-Ray" Setzer, Randy Drake, Scott Drake, Jeff Barfield, and T.J. Broussard; with Buddy Baker as an Honorary Pallbearer.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of his many friends and family who took the time to come by and visit with him, brought food and so much support. A special thanks to our niece Ellen Hill for all of her help at the hospital and when he came home, as well as IPH Hospice Care.

A Visitation of Friends and Family will be held at Restwood Funeral Home on Monday May, 16 2016 from 6pm to 8pm, with a vigil at 7pm.

Funeral Services will be held at Restwood Funeral Home on Tuesday May 17, 2016 at 10am, with committal following immediately after in Restwood Memorial Park.
