James "Jim" A. Fuchs
Born: July 05, 1943
Died: May 09, 2016

Age 72 of Roseville, MN died unexpectedly on May 9, 2016. He grew up on the Fuchs family farm in Olfen, TX and married his high school sweetheart, Sandra. He received his bachelor degree (’65) and Ph.D. (’70) from Texas A&M University. After completing his postdoctoral training in Sweden and Denmark, he joined the faculty of the University of MN in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics. As a professor for 40 years, he studied microbial genetics and biochemistry. He was an exceptional researcher and educator. He had a comprehensive knowledge of all things barbecue, and was a skilled practitioner of the art. In retirement, he was an active member of the MN Bonsai Society and a dedicated grandfather. He was a farmer at heart, and he brought that practicality and work ethic to all he did, from his science to his family. He was a loving husband and was most proud of his daughters and granddaughters. They were his world and will remain his proud legacy.

He was preceded in death by parents, Arnold and Agnes, and father-in-law, Kenneth Feist. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra; his daughters, Kimberley (Andreas) Tolias and Stephanie (Lawrence) Callanan; grandchildren, Sophia and Zoe Tolias and Isabelle and Lily Callanan; mother-in-law, Irene Feist; siblings, Helen Rose Ebaugh, Sister Deborah Ann, Tom (Janis), Roy (Diane), and Bob (Puggy); and siblings-in-law, Chuck (Becky) Feist, Joe Mike Feist, and Jan (Jerry) Klaras. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, One Lourdes Place, Minneapolis. Visitation 4-7 pm on Thursday, May 12 at Roseville Memorial Chapel, 2245 Hamline Avenue North, Roseville, and one hour prior to service at Our Lady of Lourdes on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Minnesota Bonsai Society or your favorite charity.
