Harold Carl Loesch was born October 3, 1926 in Osage, TX, the only child of Eldor and Martha (Niemeier) Loesch, who precede him in death. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church in Coryell City, TX. He died May 12, 2011 in Pensacola.
After serving in the U.S. Army in WWII, he attended Texas A&M University, where he received B.S., M.S. and Ph. D. degrees. He was Chief Marine Biologist for the State of Alabama, Professor of Marine Sciences at Louisiana State University, and worked for 20
years in various sections of the United Nations, working in fisheries with universities and governments in Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador, Mexico and Bangladesh. He published dozens of scientific papers. He is listed in Who's Who in America and
in American Men of Science. He was very active in environmental concerns with the Sierra Club.
He is survived by four sons and a daughter: Alexander (Marcy) Holland of Greenwood Village, CO, Stephen (Mary) Loesch of St. Petersburg, FL: Gretchen (David) Drinkard of Imperial, MO, Jonathan (Carolyn) Loesch of Orlando, FL and Frederick (Dawn) Loesch of Pensacola,
FL. He has seven grandchildren: Travis (Anne) Holland and Shana Holland of Denver, CO., Matthew (Katie) Loesch of San Diego, CA; Casey Loesch (Carolyn) of Jacksonville, FL, Paul Fehler of St. Louis, MO., and Xavier and Lorraine Loesch of Pensacola. He has
five great-grandchildren: Anderson, Zachary, Elizabeth, Samuel and Jackson Loesch.
Memorials may be made to scholarship funds at Concordia University in Selma, AL or to any charity of your choice.
