Kenneth "Ken" Alvin Lund
Born: October 25, 1923
Died: May 02, 2016

Kenneth Alvin Lund, 92, peacefully passed at home in Anacortes, Washington, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, May 2, 2016. He was born October 25, 1923, in Hamilton, Texas, to Edwin and Elva Lund. Ken was raised on the Lund Ranch, attending primary schools at Tonkawa and Pottsville, Texas. He graduated from Pottsville High School in 1941, where he played basketball among other sports. He attended Tarleton College until called to serve in World War II; where he served honorably in Japan and Formosa, building airstrips as a Master Sergeant. Ken completed his Civil Engineering Degree at Texas A&M and was always proud to be an Aggie.
Friends of Ken introduced him to Marilynn Torrence, by arranging a blind date in Fort Worth. They married on March 1, 1952 and bought their first home in Waco, Texas, where son Kris was born in 1952. His daughter Karen, was born in Denton, Texas in 1955. Ken’s employment with Ebasco Engineering as a Project Manager entailed frequent moves for the family in Texas and New Mexico, until he joined the Engineering firm of Bumstead and Wolford in 1962. After training in their San Francisco office, the family moved to Bellevue, Washington, where they remained until 1998. Ken and Marilynn then built the house of their dreams in Anacortes and spent their remaining days enjoying the view of Mount Baker they both adored.
Ken was an avid boater and fisherman. Building his first 12’ boat in his garage in 1960, he quickly developed a case of “Ten-foot-itis” and ended many years later with a 43’ Tollycraft™, his pride and joy. He and Marilynn spent many years cruising the San Juans and Canadian Gulf Islands. As a member of the Puget Sound Chinooks Yacht Club, he forged many deep and lasting friendships. Ken highly enjoyed growing and sharing vegetables and fruits from his garden with friends and neighbors. All who loved him, knew his wonderful smile and how he loved to tell a story or joke. Ken was a man of deep faith and was continuously active as a Deacon and Treasurer at All Saints Lutheran Church in Bellevue, Washington, then later at Anacortes Lutheran.
Ken was preceded in death by his sister Mary Elizabeth in 2005. His loving wife Marilyn was called home to God in 2008. Ken is survived by his son: Kris Lund (Chris) of Anacortes, Washington; daughter: Karen (Jim Lee) of La Conner, Washington; three grandchildren: Meredith Click of Lincoln CA; Bryce Lund of Santee CA and Elizabeth Hjelm of Stanwood, Washington; and four great grandchildren: Christopher, Katelynn, Kayden, and Evan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in the name of Ken to either the Hospice of the NW, located at 227 Freeway Drive, Mount Vernon, WA 98273 or to the Anacortes Lutheran Church, located at 2100 “O” Avenue, Anacortes, WA 98221. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday May 9, 2016 at the Anacortes Lutheran Church followed by Interment at Grandview Cemetery, with US Armed Forces Military honors. A reception will be held at the church for family and friends in honor of Ken after the Burial.
