Jerry Wood Tierce, 77, of Beaumont died on November 29, 2008 at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, at the First United Methodist Church under the direction of Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. Jerry had donated her body to the Willed Body Program at UTMB in Galveston. Jerry Tierce was born on November 13, 1931 in Beaumont. She was raised there and graduated from South Park High School in 1947. She graduated from The University of Texas in 1951 and worked for the State of Texas briefly before beginning a career in teaching and education administration. She was awarded a Master's Degree from Lamar University in 1963 and a PhD from Texas A&M in 1982. During her career, she taught elementary school, junior high school math, high school math, education courses offered at Lamar, and was a principal at Brice Elementary in Mount Pleasant, Texas before her retirement in 1991. She was active at First United Methodist Church most of her life and participated in numerous professional and community service organizations. She had many hobbies, including reading, cooking, gardening, and traveling. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Slover Tierce, and is survived by her children, Virginia Ellen Wallace and her husband James Weldon Wallace of Van Vleck, Texas, and Paul Wood Tierce and his wife Amber White Tierce of Houston; grandchildren Paula Lynn Wallace of Orlando, Florida, James Sterling Wallace and his wife Amanda Gardner Wallace of Ganado, Texas, and Michael Todd Wallace of Van Vleck; brother Herbert Wesley Wood, Jr. and his wife Lorene Boyette Wood, sisters Virginia Wood Christopher, and Mary Ann Wood Strickland.
