Born: April 23, 1938
Died: April 25, 2016

Daniel Flores, Jr., 78, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 in Laredo, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Flores, Sr. and Simona Alicia Flores; sisters, Margarita F. Nutt, Diamantina F. Peña and Delia F. Pennock.

Mr. Flores is survived by his wife, Lyndal S. Flores; children, Monica F. (Peter) Dunn, Daniel (Jean) Flores, III, Samuel D. (Clare) Flores, Aliza Flores (Victor) Oliveros, Isabel F. (David) Stellema; 17 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brothers, Apolonio (Mary) Flores, Antonio (Betty) Flores, Leo (Patsy) Flores, Fernando Flores; brother in law, Richard Pennock and numerous relatives and friends.

A rosary will be recited on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home, 310 Hillside Road.

Daniel Flores, Jr.

Daniel Flores, Jr., 78, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 in Laredo, Texas.

Mr. Flores was a native Laredoan who graduated from Martin High School and then attended Texas A&M University at the age of 16 as a member of the Corps of Cadets.

There he served as the Executive Officer of Company B-1 and married the love of his life in 1960 before graduating in 1963.

Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam and one overseas tour in Germany.

In total, he served 12 years on active duty and eight in the reserves before retiring as a major.

He went on to become the chief financial officer for Laredo Community College, retiring from there in 2009.

Even after retirement, he continued to serve his community through his position on the Appraisal Review Board, proudly advocating for Webb County residents.

He was an avid rancher who adored spending time at his Cinco Flores Ranch with family and friends, teaching them to hunt, fish, raise cattle, and work the land.

He was always teaching his family how to live life through his inimitable example of morals and character and will forever be truly loved and missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Flores, Sr. and Simona Alicia Flores; sisters, Margarita F. Nutt, Diamantina F. Peña and Delia F. Pennock.

A vigil will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

A mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Pallbearers will be A.J Stellema, David Stellema, III, Daniel Flores, IV, Peter Dunn, Jr., Rebecca Flores, Sean Dunn, Joseph Flores, Victor “Trey” Oliveros, III, and Nicholas Oliveros.

Honorary pallbearer is Alexandra Oliveros.

Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets for a scholarship to be established in his name.
