Gene Hembree Gene Herchiel Hembree of Plainview passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the age of 70. He was born Jan. 25, 1946, in Plainview, Texas, to Herchiel and Helena (Carroll) Hembree. He received his bachelor's degree in business from Texas A&M. Gene was self-employed as a paint contractor. He married Frankie Blackwell on June 4, 1965, they were married for almost 51 years. Gene was very involved in his community he was a member of the Planning & Zoning Board with the City of Plainview, Elk's Club, A&M Band. He also was the president of band boosters and he coached softball at the YMCA. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; one daughter, Tanya Buckley and husband, Joel of San Antonio; one brother, Glenn Hembree and wife, Cynthia of Perry, Oklahoma; two sisters, Nancy Steiwig and husband, Monty of Lubbock and Mittie Sue Goff of Plainview; two grandchildren, Corbin Buckley and Brendon Buckley; nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
