Jeffrey Louis Fincher
February 26, 1958 - March 18, 2015

Jeff was born to John and Mae Fincher in Odessa, Texas, on February 26, 1958. Soon after, they moved to Montana where he spent his childhood, and his sister was born. When he was nine his family moved to Tripoli, Libya, where he explored Roman ruins at Sabratha, picnicked on white beaches, and snorkeled in the crystal waters of the Mediterranean Sea. When he was 11, Muammar Gaddafi staged a coup and his family moved to London, England where he spent his teenage years in the St. John’s Wood area next to Regent’s Park.

There, he discovered a passion for electronics, assembling Heathkits, including his own stereo and oscilloscope, and creating electronic toys for his new little brother. He attended the American Community School in London, where he found lifelong friends among other students and teachers and went on many school trips throughout Europe. He also spent many years as a Boy Scout, attaining rank of Eagle Scout, with every weekend camping out, rain or shine. 

After graduating high school, he went back to the United States to attend Texas A&M University where he joined the Corps of Cadets. There he became Company Commander for L1 outfit. He graduated with bachelor degrees in both mechanical and electrical engineering, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He also spent many years as a Captain in the Army Corp of Engineer’s reserves.

After graduation, he moved to the California Bay Area to work as an engineer for Ampex where he remained for 17 years. He then worked at RoboToolz, Synthesys Research and Techtronix. Throughout his career Jeff designed many inventions and acquired 8 patents.

In 1991, he met his loving wife, Janice, and their life together brought many new friends and experiences including travels abroad. Jeff found love and affection from his kitty children over the years including, Grey Beast, Simon, and currently Cassie and Owen He took up martial arts, scuba diving, sailing, art collecting, traveling, composing, and archery. Jeff also enjoyed playing classical pieces on the piano and enjoyed listening to all types of music.

Jeff was a long time member and past President of Calvary Lutheran Church in Millbrae. Participating in the choir there, brought him much joy. His strong faith in God showed in the way he gave leadership, conducted his career, and how he loved others.

Jeff is preceded in death by his father, John Louis Fincher Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Janice Reisman Fincher; mother, Mae Fincher of Spring, Texas; sister, Annette Fincher of Bryan, Texas; brother, Clint Fincher of Sunnyvale, California, and many great friends. 

A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held Saturday, March 28th, 11:30 A.M. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 401 Santa Lucia Avenue in Millbrae, California.
