David Makar
May 25, 1931 - February 21, 2015
David G. Makar, aged 83, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas.
David was born May 25, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to William Makar and Nellie Sams, and older brother Byron. David married Joanne Goetz of San Antonio at Westminster Presbyterian Church on May 29, 1954. He studied architecture at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, graduating in May 1955. After college, he served in the US Air Force, working as a radar operator in the 848th Air Control & Warning Squadron in Hokkaido, Japan. David received his AIA certification in 1963 and spent the rest of his career designing homes, houses of worship, offices and other buildings in San Antonio and throughout Texas.
Known for his love of home remodeling, baking pies and doing jigsaw puzzles, David was also an avid and lifelong Aggie, baseball enthusiast, and animal lover. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Makar; son Michael Makar (Victoria); daughter Penelope Makar; son Patrick Makar; son Paul Makar; and daughter Marianne Makar; his grandchildren Crystal Laubach, Charlie Hartman, Ashley Schuetz, Chelsie Cawthon, Sarah Makar, Christopher Cawthon, Anna Makar, Dylan Makar, and Madelyn Makar; his great-grandchildren Mackenzie Powell, Abigail Powell, Lane Laubach, Dean Cawthon, Blake Misener, and Parker Schuetz; and his dog, Sugar. David is pre-deceased by his parents and brother.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at Covenant Presbyterian Church, located at 211 Roleto Drive in Castle Hills, Texas.
