November 13, 1925 - February 10, 2015
Bill Nobiling, 89, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. He was born on November 13, 1925 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to the late Clarence "Nibs" and Fonzo "Tot" Nobiling. The family moved to San Antonio in 1931 where Bill attended Alamo Heights elementary, middle, and high schools. During his childhood Bill enjoyed participating in the Boy Scouts of America where he became a member of the Emergency Service Corps, earned his Eagle Scout award in 1941, and went on to become the scoutmaster of troop 1125 for many years and took his troop to the famous Philmont Scout Ranch. He also enjoyed playing the piano, collecting stamps, coins, match covers, and post cards, treasure hunting, sailing, and making model airplanes. Bill graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1943 and began his studies at Texas A&M University as a proud member of the class of 1947 where he played trombone in the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band. In 1944 Bill entered the United States Navy V-12 program at Millsaps College. In 1945 Bill was honorably discharged from the Navy and began the long drive to Alaska where he worked on the Alaskan Railroad. On his way to Alaska he met his wife, Janet L. Nobiling née Beyer, in Glacier National Park. After much exploring and many adventures Bill drove back to Texas in 1949 where he completed his Bachelor of Science in business at Texas A&M. On June 28th, 1952, Bill married Janet in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and later had 4 children during their 62 year marriage. Bill earned a master's degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1968 during his work for the Department of the Army. Bill was an active member of Beethoven Maenerchor, the San Antonio Texas A&M Club, the San Antonio Philatelic Association, and was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Sedgwick, and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Janet, his children, Alan Nobiling, Kathy Schmidt, Cynthia Mora, and Susanne Dobson Nerio, grandchildren, Heather Nobiling, Whitney DeHaven, Devon Davis, Brad Dobson, Brian Nobiling, William Schmidt, Karina Mora, and Alex Mora, and 7 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2015 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.

The interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park on Austin Hwy with military honors. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Texas A&M Century Club Bill Nobiling '47 Memoriam Fund.
