CANTON - Services for Peggy Lou Emerson Hagar, 59 of The Woodlands, formerly of Canton are scheduled for 1:00 P M Friday at Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Athens with Danny Davis officiating.

Burial will follow at High Cemetery in Canton.

Peggy, a native of Canton passed away February 9, 2015 after a three year fight against breast cancer. She was with her two daughters, her husband and one of her sisters.

She was born September 20, 1955 in Gainesville to Thomas Waymon and Clara May Humphreys Emerson. Peggy was a 1974 graduate of Canton High School. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Texas A & M University in 1978 and her Associates degree from Henderson County Community College in 1976. Prior to being awarded her teaching certificate at Beaumont's Lamar University in 1996 Peggy had been in media relations at Methodist Hospital, Community Relations Director at Sharpstown Center in Houston, program coordinator at YWCA, assignments editor at KOTV-TV Channel 6 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and News Director at KXII-TV Channel 12 in Sherman. Peggy was a first grade teacher at Barbara Bush Elementary School in the Woodlands. She previously taught first grade at All Saints Episcopal School and Pietzch-MacArthur Elementary School in Beaumont.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years Rick Hagar, daughters Catherine Hagar and Elizabeth Hagar, sisters Becky Emerson and Cathy Peel, mother in law Nova Lee Hagar, brother in law Ron Hagar and sister in law Gail West and husband Paul.

Visitation for family and friends will be 11 – 12 at the church.
