Wallar Overton

Abilene, TX

Wallar Overton of the community of Paint Creek passed away at Hendrick Medical Center under hospice care on November 13, 2014 from oral cancer complicated by a serious infection. Family visitation will be Friday, November 21st at the Paint Creek High School Cafeteria from 5 to 7 p.m. and his memorial service will be Saturday, November 22nd at the Paint Creek High School Gym at 2:30 p.m. under the direction of Abilene Cremations with help from his family and friends. Rev. Jimmy Griffith and Rev. Weston Pendergrass will be officiating.

Wallar was born on April Fools day 1939, the second of a set of twins. He graduated from Paint Creek High School and attended Texas A&M College where he received a commission in Armor and a degree in Agronomy. He served in the Army as platoon leader and XO of "G" Troop 2nd Squadron 14 Armored Cavalry on the East/West German border. Returning home, Wallar began a partnership farming/ranching operation with his father and became deeply involved with his community. Ten years later, Wallar married his first love Steffi Ziegler, whom he met while in the army in Germany.

He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 148 in Paint Creek for 20 years, Paint Creek School Board for 30+ years, ASCS Community Committee, Democratic Precinct Election Judge, Paint Creek Water Supply board, Texas Young Farmers, North Texas TB/RD Association board, Farmers Co-Op Gin board, Aggie Muster Chairman, Governor's Agricultural Committee, Haskell County Appraisal Committee, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, church administrative council, Masonic Lodge (including Chapter, Council, and Commandry), Chisholm Trail Council Board, Timber Tag (Scoutmaster's Basic Training staff), received the Silver Beaver (highest award given by a Council to a volunteer), was involved as a leader on many High Adventure Scouting treks, and was an Eagle Scout.

Wallar is survived by his loving wife Steffi and two sons of which he was so proud: Hans Overton of Paint Creek and Marcus Overton of Austin, his twin brother William (Bill) Overton of Paint Creek, a brother Mike and his wife Linda Overton of McKinney, TX, and their two daughters Paige Mayes and her husband Todd of Longview, TX, and Brooke Overton of McKinney, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be submitted to the Texas Trails Council Boy Scouts of America in Abilene or the cancer/other charity of the donor's choice . There is also a Wallar Overton Memorial Scholarship Fund being set up through Paint Creek I.S.D.

Finally, the family would like to thank Dr. Vega, Dr. Mahoney, Dr. Goodnight, Dr. Green, and all of their staff for the care they provided for Wallar. We would also like to thank the nurses and staff on the oncology floor and in the hospice wing at Hendrick Medical Center. Your dedication, professionalism, and kindness will not be forgotten.
