Martin Wayon Hefley

Martin Hefley
August 5, 1944 – November 12, 2014

Martin Wayon Hefley, 70, of Bryan, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. A time for family to receive friends will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Hillier Funeral Home, 2301 E. 29th Street in Bryan. Celebration of life service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2014 also at the funeral home with Rev. Rick Sitton officiating. Interment will follow at Aggie Field of Honor.

Martin was born on August 5, 1944 in Mineral Wells to John and Wanda (Hines) Hefley. He grew up in Port Arthur and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1962. Martin went on to attend Texas A&M University, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Business in 1966 and with an MBA in 1967. He was a member of the Corp of Cadets while at Texas A&M and went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. Martin worked for Sun Oil Company in Dallas for over 20 years. Following a move to North Carolina, he worked as the Director of Security for the North Carolina Department of Revenue and retired after 15 years of service.

While attending Texas A&M, Martin met the love of his life, Mary Sue Baker, on a blind date his senior year. They were married on February 11, 1967 and together they raised two sons. After Martin’s retirement in 2006, Martin and Mary Sue moved back to Bryan. He was a proud supporter of all things Texas A&M, especially being a second generation Aggie and continuing the legacy with his oldest son. He loved to travel and the family visited all 50 states with stops at many National Parks and Forts along the way. Martin was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Bryan.

Martin leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Sue Hefley; sons, Jeff Hefley and wife, Debbie of Spring and Michael Hefley of Bryan; sister, Ann Boriskie and husband, Don of Atlanta, GA; nieces, Dr. Amy Hair and husband, Dr. Clark Hair of Houston and Laurie Sandlin and husband, Doug of Boulder, CO; nephew, Dr. Barry Boriskie of Columbia, SC and great-niece, Emma Hair. He is preceded in death by his parents.
