Dayna Katherine Kirk
Memorial services are scheduled for Dayna Katherine Kirk at 2 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2014, at First Baptist Church Hawkins with Dr. Bill Holmes officiating.

Dayna was born Nov. 22, 1960, in Gilmer to Dan and Gwyn Kirk and passed away peacefully at her home in Chicago, Illinois, Oct. 14, 2014. She grew up in Hawkins, attending the public schools and graduating valedictorian of the Class of 1978. She went on to major in math and history at Texas A&M. It was there that she first became interested in the French language, art and culture.

She was awarded a Rotary International Scholarship to study in Tours, France, and spent a year there after undergraduate school.

She came back to Houston where she earned a Master of Architecture at Rice University, graduating in 1989. From there, she moved to Chicago where she lived for 25 years. She became a licensed architect, practiced in several firms and did a stint in consumer advertising with Leo Burnett. She then formed her own company, Front Row, where she spearheaded brand-building and marketing campaigns for professional services companies in real estate, architecture, engineering and construction-related fields.

She also guest lectured on various topics at the School of The Art Institute of Chicago, The University of Illinois at Chicago, and The University of Chicago. Ardent about physical fitness, she loved yoga, pilates and squash. She volunteered with METROsquash, an after-school program that brings squash, mentoring and academic tutoring to middle-school students. A tireless traveler, she had visited much of the United States and Europe in addition to Jordan, Israel and China.

She is survived by her parents, Dan and Gwyn Kirk, of Hawkins; one brother, Jay, of New York; a god sister, Erin Graham, of Plano; a loving family; and a host of wonderful friends.

Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or The Miles Perret Center Cancer Services, 2130 Kaliste Saloom Road, No. 200, Lafayette, Louisiana, 70508.
