Irwin Lee Stein
Dr. Irwin Lee Stein, D.D.S. (91) passed away on October 15, 2014. Irwin was born on July 10, 1923 in Galveston, Texas, and was the eldest son of Ida and Jack Stein, brother of Gladys Pink (Louis), Milton Stein, and Harold Stein. Irwin grew up in the Heights in Houston, Texas and worked in the family grocery store. After graduating from Reagan High School he attended Texas A & M University. During World War II, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp and served as a radio operator flying many missions over Japan earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and other medals. After completing his military obligation, he attended the University of Texas Dental School and in 1947 he married Mary Annette Solomon. After graduating from dental school, Irwin moved to Pasadena, Texas and had two daughters. He opened up his dental practice and shared an office with his uncle Dr. Max Diamond in Pasadena, Texas and practiced in Pasadena until he retired in 1995. While living in Pasadena, he helped start a B'nai Brith Men's Chapter and was also an active member of the Pasadena Optimist's Club for many years. He married Ione Shirley Hirsch in February 1973. They were married for 41 years and never spent a night apart during their marriage. They enjoyed traveling around the world, relaxing at their beach home in South Padre Island, and going to Red River, New Mexico in the summer to escape the Texas heat. Irwin's passions were music, fishing with friends and family, barbecuing, playing bridge, and watching cooking shows. He kept up with current business and government news on the computer, and truly enjoyed relaxing on his back porch in Lago Vista every evening with Ione enjoying his beloved Texas hill country views and weather. Irwin is survived by his wife Ione, his daughter Suzanne Stein (Ruth Young) of Sarasota, Florida, daughter Cynthia Klein (Peter) of Lago Vista, grandson Andrew Klein (San Antonio), brother Harold Stein (Sue) of Sun City, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staffs of Texas Oncology and the Cedar Park Regional Medical Center for their kind and caring support over the past 5 years. A memorial service to celebrate Irwin's life will be held on Friday, October 24th at 1:30 p.m. at the K Oaks Clubhouse located at 7000 Bar K Ranch Road in Lago Vista, Texas and will be officiated by Rabbi Marie Betcher.
