John G. HardinApril 30, 1927 - September 30, 2014John Gene Hardin was born April 30, 1927 in McAllen, Texas. John served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific from 1944-1946. During the Korean War John was recalled and served from 1950-1952.

John attended Texas A&M University, majoring in Agriculture and continued that study in graduate school at both Texas A&M and Texas Tech University. John worked as an appraiser in Billings, Montana and with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Flathead, MT. In 1960 he transferred to Eastern Washington and later to Yakima, doing land evaluation for the tribes in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. After retiring from the BIA, John started his own appraisal business.

In 1963 he met Jeanette Patterson, a teacher, at a friend's wedding in Cody, Wyoming. Six months later they were married. Jeanette and John have two children, Joe Hardin and Heather Kessler (John), both reside in Yakima. John adored his grandsons Noah and Gavin Kessler.

John has been a member of several Masonic organizations for over 50 years and also the Masada Shrine. John loved being an active member of Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church, where he just finished helping with vacation Bible school.

You would never know it by John's sweet demeanor, but he is a direct relative of both John Wesley Hardin and the Dalton gang, old west outlaws.

John's son Joe is thriving under the care of Community Living in Yakima, and memorials may be made to this wonderful organization in John's honor, care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home.

We wish to thank Cottage in the Meadow for the wonderful and compassionate care they gave to John in his final days.

A memorial service is planned for 2 pm, Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church, located at 9 South 8th Ave., Yakima.

Arrangements under the direction of Keith & Keith Funeral Home, Yakima, WA.
