Dean Edward Letzring
June 16, 1933 - October 12, 2014
Dean Edward Letzring passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at his residence. Dean was born June 16th, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to William John Letzring and Alta Catherine Riley. Dean received a BA in geology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
He was a veteran in the United States Army having served his country in an engineering unit as a Geodetic Surveyor in San Francisco, California as well as Panama. He was employed at the Department of Oceanography at Texas A&M University for 30 years. He traveled
extensively during his professional life including Australia and Antarctica. His accomplishments were outfitting, maintenance and operation of the research vessel R/V Gyre (T-AGOR-21) operated by Texas A&M University. Upon retirement, Dean focused his attention
on his passion of the Civil War. He was instrumental in researching and publishing two civil war history books.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother William John Letzring Jr. He is survived by his children Kathleen Blocker of Riesel, Texas; Laura and husband Sam Streetman of Hewitt, Texas; Linda and husband Stan Rife of Waco, Texas; and Kurt Letzring of
Dickinson, Texas. Grandchildren Joshua Blocker and wife Sarah of Waco, Texas; Sarah and husband Patrick Pullen of Waco, Texas; Daniel Streetman and fiancée Ella of New York City, New York; Alan Streetman and wife Chanae of Waco, Texas; Nathan Streetman and
fiancée Samantha of Waco, Texas; four great grandchildren; sister-in-law Lois Letzring of Campbell, California; and two nieces and their spouses and children. As well as a host of close friends and colleagues. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16,
2014 from 5:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, Texas. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 3:00p.m. in the chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home with interment to follow in Forest Park East Cemetery
located at 21620 Gulf Freeway Webster, Texas 77598.
