Herman Samuel Aubrey
May 31, 1925 - August 3, 2014

Herman Samuel “Sam” Aubrey, 89, died peacefully with family at his side at Inverness Village in Tulsa on August 3, 2014. Born in Homer, Louisiana on May 31, 1925 to Herman Samuel Aubrey (Sr.) and Mildred Ryan Aubrey, Sam enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps in January, 1943 at the age of 17½, before he completed high school. After basic training Sam was sent to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater to take short courses in basic math and science. Here he met his future wife, Mildred “Bunnie” Park, who was a student in journalism at OSU. Sam earned his wings and the rank of 2nd Lt. at age 19, then the youngest pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Cairo and then Abadan (Iran), and after training in Marrakech (Morocco) he was promoted to 1st Lt. Sam flew the C-46, transporting cargo and passengers out of Cairo, Tripoli, and Casa Blanca. Sam and Bunnie were married in the Rose Chapel of Boston Avenue Methodist Church on December 30, 1945. Sam was discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corps in January, 1946. He received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University and worked for Dallas Power and Light. He was recalled to active duty in September, 1951 and served as a flight test maintenance officer for the 18th Air Force in Greenville, SC. He was discharged in March, 1953 and became a manufacturers’ representative for the W.C. Myers Co. in Tulsa, which was renamed the Myers-Aubrey Co. when Sam became a partner. He had a successful career as president of the company until he retired in 1990. He served as a deacon at John Knox Presbyterian Church and later as president of Hope Unitarian Church. Sam was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bunnie, and is survived by his daughters, Ginny Aubrey LeDoux and her husband, Jerry LeDoux, of Tulsa, and Elizabeth (“Betty”) Aubrey of Iowa City, IA; his brother, James Edward Aubrey of Shreveport, LA; his four grandchildren, Michelle LeDoux Finamore of Dallas, TX, Heather LeDoux Green of Arlington, VA, David Marquette LeDoux of Detroit, MI, and Robin LeDoux Higgins of Tulsa; and his eight great-grandchildren, Ryan and Sophie DeShazo, Caroline Finamore, Solomon, Gabe, and Rorie Higgins, and Miles and Tessa Green. A memorial service will be held at Rosewood Chapel, 2570 S. Harvard in Tulsa, on Wednesday, August 6 at 1:00 p.m. Gifts in his honor can be made to Neighbor for Neighbor, 505 E. 36th St. N., Tulsa, OK 74106, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
