Mr. James Clifton Sorrells 
(December 15, 1927 - July 25, 2014)

James Clifton Sorrells of Rocksprings, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 25, 2014, in Plano, Texas. James was the first born to Clifton and Leta Ivy Sorrells on December 15, 1927 in Mason, Texas.

He met Rebecca Rodgers who was born May 6, 1931, in Brady, Texas daughter of Mart and Mabel Rodgers.

James received a degree in Animal Husbandry in 1949 from Texas A& M University in College Station, TX. He was inspector for the State Feed Control for A&M for a year. Becky attended school in Rochelle, TX and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse from the Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital in Brady, TX.

James and Becky were married on December 22, 1951. To this union James and Becky were blessed with a son, Robert Samuel on December 30, 1954, in Canyon, TX. Bob graduated from Rocksprings High School in 1973. Then James and Becky were blessed with their second born Janet Lynn on June 14, 1956. Jan graduated from Saint Albert Hall in Boerne, TX in 1975.

James love for ranching and the outdoors took them to the Newton Harrell Ranch in Claude, TX. After about 20 years with the Newton Harrell Ranch. James and Becky moved to Rocksprings, TX, in 1970 to be in the family partnership with Sorrells Grocery & Market which continued to grow through the years. They also had a filling station which his younger brother Kenneth ran. The two brothers continued to run the family businesses until 1997. Then they sold the family businesses in hopes of traveling the world. In 2003, James and Kenneth opened the Sorrells Inn which they both have run together ever since.

James is survived by his son, Robert Samuel Sorrells and wife Martha; daughter, Janet Lynn Cowart and husband Allen; grandchildren, Robert Gomez, Samuel Sorrells, Travis Sorrells, Adrianne Lynn Beasley and Lori Dempsey and husband Christopher.

He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Sorrells and wife Maxine; five great grandchildren, Ayden, Logan, Reilly and Rebecca Dempsey and Spencer Sorrells and loved by all his nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Robert Gomez, Sam Sorrells, Travis Sorrells, John Kain, Evaristo Rendon, and Steve Sorrells.

Visitation will be 12 noon to 4:30 pm Sunday, July 27th at Nelson Funeral Chapel of Rocksprings.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Rocksprings, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Cemetery in Camp Air, Texas.

Arrangements are under the personal care of Nelson Funeral Home of Rocksprings, Texas.
