Hugo"Jerry" Meuth
February 9, 1924 - September 10, 2014

Hugo Gerald (Jerry) Meuth of College Station passed away in Bryan on September 10, 2014. There will be a private family graveside service on Saturday, September 13 in the College Station Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the A&M Church of Christ, 2475 Earl Rudder Fwy S, College Station at 10:30 am. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 12 from 5 to 7 pm at Hillier Funeral Home, 2301 E. 29th Street in Bryan. 

Jerry was born the only child of Hugo and Ruby Wilson Meuth on February 9, 1924 at Pin Oak near Smithville, Texas. He was raised on the family farm outside of Smithville, graduating from Smithville High School in 1942. He attended Tarleton State College for one year before joining the U. S. Army in WW II. 

He entered the Army in 1943 and was discharged after the war. He stayed in a body cast for over a year in the VA Hospital in Arlington from injuries he received during his time in the service. He later went to work for the Postal Service in Dallas and attended school at Arlington State College before moving to Bryan to attend Texas A&M. 

He married Erma Louise Wilson from Grapeland on March 30, 1946 and they celebrated their 68th anniversary this past March. Jerry and Erma have attended the A&M Church of Christ dating back to the 1950's. 

Jerry graduated from the A&M College of Texas in 1953 with a degree in Agriculture Economics. He then went to work for the Texas Transportation Institute on the A&M campus as a Research Economist. He continued to work at Texas A&M with the Texas Engineering Extension Service until his retirement in 1985. 

Jerry continued to raise cattle all his life in Smithville and enjoyed working the family farm on the Colorado River which has been in his family over 100 years. He took great pride in his cattle and loved growing vegetables and harvesting pecans from the many trees on the farm. 

Jerry is survived by his wife, Erma, of College Station; his daughter, Marilyn Terrell and her husband Dr. Wayne Terrell of College Station and his daughter, Nancy and her husband Norm Archibald of Abilene. Jerry is also survived by his four grandchildren who lovingly called him "PapPaw": Bryan Gregory Archibald and his wife Brooke of Abilene, Sallye Anne Terrell Hudson and her husband John of Port Arthur, Betsy Anne Archibald Daniels and her husband Hunter of Corpus Christi, and Jeffery Wayne Terrell of Dallas. In addition, he was survived by three great-grandchildren: Hunter Gregory Archibald and Hudson James Archibald of Abilene and Margaret Louise Daniels of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by his caregiver Carolyn Lott. He is also survived by cousins and a host of many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Katy Lee Archibald. 

He will be missed by his family and his many friends.
