Edgar Allen Morton
May 29, 1926 - August 18, 2014

Edgar Allen Morton, age 88, passed away on August 18, 2014. He was born on May 29, 1926, in De Leon, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Barney Morton and Reecy Marie Sadler Morton. Edgar (Ed) graduated from Groesbeck High School, then from Texas A&M College in 1946. He and his wife, Mary Alice, were married on February 17, 1946. He served in the Army Air Corps towards the end of WWII. He also attended law school at SMU in Dallas for two years. Ed worked in the oil and gas industry for many years. He worked for Atlantic Richfield, as vice president for Coastal States, as president of Border Exploration, and for Garnet Resources. He worked as a landman for many years and negotiated oil and gas concessions in the United States and in many countries internationally, including Papua New Guinea, Russia, Greece, Australia, Mauritania, and China. After retirement he did oil and gas consulting for several years. He also did recruitment on high school campuses throughout Texas for the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. Ed loved the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M, Texas A&M football, playing golf, and hunting. He also loved Texas and Western books, movies, and West Texas – especially the Lajitas and Big Bend area. He also was very patriotic and loved the United States very much. Ed is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Alice Oliver Morton; son Chris Oliver Morton and wife, Julia; granddaughters Victoria Jane Morton and Olivia Jill Morton; son Kevin Edward Morton and wife, Dianna; and granddaughters Sophia Lynn Morton and Sydney Grace Morton. Services will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 10 AM at Cashner Colonial Chapel, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas 77303. Graveside services will be held the same day at 3 PM in Faulkenberry Cemetery, Groesbeck, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840. Please designate "In memory of Ed Morton '46 – attention Jerome Rektorik" in the memo line of the check.
