George Hedrick Jr.
August 15, 1925 - August 15, 2014

George Hedrick, Jr., of Union City, GA, passed away on his 89th birthday, August 15, 2014. Born in Mexia, Texas to George and Wilhelmina Blom Hedrick, he grew up in Ennis, Texas. George attended Texas A&M and was a faithful Aggie fan. He was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corp. In 1948, he began a lifelong career in aviation with C&S Airlines, which became Delta Air Lines from which he retired in 1987. After retirement, he and his wife Mary opened their own business, George's Antiques, which gave them years of enjoyment traveling the country to various antique shows. Retirement also gave George and Mary the opportunity to enjoy time and travel with their grandchildren. George was a current member of First United Methodist Church of Fairburn. For many years, he was an active member of East Point First United Methodist Church and served as scout master for Troop 54. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mitzi Dwyer. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Walker Hedrick of Union City; his son, George Hedrick, of Decatur, GA;; his daughter, Linda (Jimmy) Lawrence, of Carrollton, GA; his granddaughters; Ashley Hedrick (Shannon) Browning, of Livingston, MT, and Leslie Lawrence (Stephen) Maddox, of Newport News, VA; his grandsons, Kent Lawrence of Dahlonega, GA, and Austin Hedrick of Decatur, GA; great-granddaughters, Violet Lynn and Savannah Rose Browning; his brother, Ben (Lila) Hedrick of Arlington, TX; nieces and nephew. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 4pm. First United Methodist Church of Fairburn. Rev. Jay Hodges officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
