Charles H. Stasny
September 22, 1921 - July 29, 2014

Charles H. Stasny, 92, of Bryan, passed away, Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Saturday, August 2, 2014 with a Rosary to be recited 7:00 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 P.M., Sunday, August 3, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan. Entombment will follow at the Msgr. Gleissner Mausoleum at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Bryan.

Charles was born September 22, 1921 in Bryan, the son of John J. and Jennie Kosh Stasny. His education at Texas A&M College was interrupted by WWII when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater as a radioman aboard the USS McCawley, USS President, USS Appalachian and the USS Harry Lee. After the war he returned to Bryan and worked for Lone Star Gas and eventually was a US Postal Clerk until his retirement.

Mr. Stasny was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was also an expert 42 player, Aggie fan, and enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Mr. Stasny was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a very active volunteer, changing out books, preparing the newsletter mail outs and was an all-around handyman when needed. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #1834, American Legion, Earl Graham Post #159, and Age Managers at St. Joseph. He was a longtime supporter of Boy Scouts and a former Cubmaster and Scoutmaster. He was also involved with Habitat for Humanity, where more recently he was primary sponsor of the Charles and Mary Anne Stasny Habitat for Humanity House. Charles was the subject of a children's book, The Firegator, which has become the mascot of the children's museum. (First edition published in 2002.)

Mr. Stasny was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anne Stasny in May of 2013.

Survivors include his sons and their wives, James & Addie Stasny, David & Mary Stasny, Greg & Tracy Stasny; a daughter, Anne Stasny; grandchildren, Mark & his wife Shellie Stasny, Tina & her husband Ed Chase, Cindy & her husband Bryan Dippel, Stephen Stasny, Sarah Stasny, John & his wife Courtney Stasny, Rachel Stasny, and George & his wife Sarah Stasny; ten great grandsons and two great granddaughters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Still Creek Ranch, St. Joseph Church or the charity of your choice.
