Guy Simpson Halter, age 91, of San Antonio passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014. He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico in April, 12, 1923 to Richard Grant Halter and Edith Simpson Halter where his father worked as a mining engineer. In September, 1947, Guy began his 40 year career as an electrical engineer with City Public Service where he retired as Superintendent of the Technical Division in 1988. While in Power Plant Engineering for 16 years, he was described as instrumental in designing electrical systems in nine separate power plants, especially at Braunig Lake. As Superintendent of Transmission from 1976 to 1987 his division was responsible for constructing hundreds of transmission lines and numerous substations throughout San Antonio. Prior to his professional career, Guy graduated from Alamo Heights High School in May, 1941 where "Spider" was elected as head cheerleader. He then attended Texas A&M University until May 1944 when his entire class was called into the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater, mainly in the occupation forces with the Signal Corp in Mannheim, Germany until he returned home in 1946. Guy subsequently graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University in May, 1947 and proudly wore his Aggie ring for the rest of his life. He was a lifelong member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Guy and his wife were active members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry. In addition, he was a longstanding member and club treasurer of the Bexar Kiwanis Club for 13 years and a member of the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M. On a personal note Guy loved to plan and travel with his wife to 50 different states. He was a loyal family man who loved board games, especially Mah Jong. Guy was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Audrian Spencer, and brother, Richard C. Halter. He is survived by his wife, Virginia S.
