Mark Steven Rivera
A Servant of Jesus Christ
Corpus Christi, TX

Mark Steven Rivera passed away at home in San Antonio on June 26, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Mark's strong faith in his heavenly Father and love for family were a great comfort to him and sustained him during his illness. Mark's life was blessed by the love of his life and wife, Clarissa; young daughter, Natalia Elise; and immediate family. Mark was born on November 3, 1974 in Corpus Christi to Pedro and Gloria Rivera. He was a graduate of the Athena program, graduating from Mary Carroll High School in 1993 with honors, attended Texas A&M University-College Station, and graduated with honors at Texas A&M University-Kingsville with a B.S. Degree in Computer Sciences. Mark's early career included work as a Systems Engineer, Computer Programmer and microchip circuit designer. He also worked at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station as an Informational Technology (IT) Systems Specialist Manager before moving to San Antonio in 2010. In recent years, Mark felt called to serve others and decided to follow a more spiritual calling by preparing for the ministry in the United Methodist Church. He was a licensed Local Minister and assisted in many church functions including preaching God's word. His ministry reached many from the homeless to the conference Bishop. As time has gone by many stories have come forward as witness to how far his ministry had reached.

Mark is survived by his wife, Clarissa Nava Rivera; daughter, Natalia Elise Rivera; parents, Pedro and Gloria (Tunches) Rivera of Corpus Christi; brother, Eric (Connie) Rivera; nephew, Vincent S. Rivera; aunt, Grace (Rudy) Marez; uncles, Johnny (Edna) Tunches, Carlos (Dodie) Tunches, Gerald (Cindy) Tunches; numerous cousins; extended family, and friends in Corpus Christi and San Antonio. Special thanks for support and love to father- and mother-in-law Ismael and Gloria Nava, and brother-in-law Ismael J. Nava from Corpus Christi. Also thanks to Rev. John Feagins and Rev. Noe Gonzalez for their spiritual guidance, friendship, and love and support from local church families where he worshiped.

A Celebration of Life is planned on Sunday afternoon, June 29, at 5:00 pm at La Trinidad United Methodist Church, 300 San Fernando St., San Antonio, Texas.
